Sauk River Saturday July 21 2007

Down to Sunday's private trip

This was another commercial trip. We ran three fully loaded paddle boats for an all men's church group.

Please be patient while the pictures load...

The river level was low; it was tricky and a lot of work to miss the exposed rocks. (We got stuck in a few places.)
I didn't get many pictures, but there are more pictures of the day's trip are on riverpeople.com.
Since someone else took these pictures, there's more of yours truly to be seen. (I'm in the yellow helmet and life jacket.)

Sauk River July 22 2007

We camped out Saturday night and ran again on Sunday. It rained all night, which was a good thing.
The river rose during the night, covering a lot of the rocks that we had to dodge on Saturday.
This made Sunday's run more enjoyable, and a lot less work. It stopped raining when we broke camp,
but it was warm and extremely humid. The humidity condensed into a thick mist over the river,
making it difficult at times to see the rapids.

We camped at a scenic overlook, but the constant rain obscured the view.

It rained all night, shrouding the mountains in mist.

Al made oatmeal for breakfast. We spent all our time under this portable 10x10 shelter.

It stopped raining when we broke camp. It stayed warm and misty, with 100% humidity.

continuing on.

The mist lowered visibility severely in some places. I ran many rapids by memory and sound.
